In reference to something Loren had said in an earlier post:

I noticed that most all of the original "Herbie" movies dubbed in a softer-sounding engine in several 2nd Production scenes.  In "Fully Loaded", however, I was pleased to hear the familiar "fweem!" emit from Herbie's backside, even when spitting and sputtering.  Finally, he sounded like a Volkswagen!  I could almost smell the horse-hair stuffing!  LOL

In the Amazing Race there was a Beetle parked on the side of the road in Panama. I seem to be hitting all the TV Bugs these days.

in Seinfeld - Kramer had a convertible karmann Ghia - He hopped in it without opening the door??

They only showed it the once....

I look at many 1970s TV shows so I can spot the Beetles and type 3s in the US in that era...

Watched Steven King's Dead Zone last night. The movie, not the series. Christopher Walken's character drives a nice bug at the beginning. He ends up crashing it into a tractor trailer and flipping it while trying to "defrost" the windshield with his sleeve. Only a VW owner could appreciate the humor in that! Also noted that the foley guy actually used real bug sounds for the engine.

Pulp Fiction has a beetle parked on road side during the scene where Vincent, Julius and Mr. Wolf are at the wrecking yard disposing of the car with a dead guy in it.

You should see Spielberg's new flick "Munich".  Tons of Veedubs in that movie.  Type 1's and Type 2s, with a few commercial Type 2s, my fav.

I got the box set of all the Herbie movies for Christmas, including Herbie-Fully loaded (I'm going to review them at the site next month). I know all the hype about Herbie, but if you love the Beetle then you have to pick this set up. The original Herbie the Love Bug is a special edition with a bonus CD. That CD is worth it's weight in gold! It has tons of Herbie Trivia, bonus footage and interviews with the actors. Dean Jones still owns one of the original cars!
