I've looked for this item before and never had any luck.

Here's a link to a website that has some info on them http://www.btinternet.com/~chessf/rr/weird/weird013.htm

I'd try the classifieds at http://www.thesamba.com or good old eBay!

Hey Kris, you're in luck. I spoke to Bill at http://www.retro-designs.com and got some info on a new RR kit that he is going to produce.

Quote:
First thanks for visiting my website. Unfortunately it is not up to date and that is your good news !

Because of folks like you I have decided to go for a kit that would fit the old time air cooled VW's.  Unfortunately I cannot show photo of my fully installed RR kit as none are yet available.

I think this design is superb, besides being the only one I know available. Prices are still not worked out however if you contact me what you want to buy I'll work out a price.

The chrome grill and ornament I would supply, the painting of the hood would be yours to do.

You used to be able to get those from JC Whitney back in the day, no? I remember seeing it when I bought the 911 kit for my Super.

Here's some more info from the supplier...

Quote:

Cost of hood for either the Super or Standard Beetle, unpainted, but including all metal flange work on underside to attach it to a VW is $ 575.00. The grill for hood, chrome, painted and ready for installation is $250.00. The typical name plate is left blank for you to supply (like RR or your initials). Hood ornament as shown is $35.00.

Rear deck can be made as shown or the air vents left blank with the vent located just under the license plate (license should then be projected about an inch away. This is a proven method of ventilation and my feeling is it gives a more regal look deserving of an RR. Rear deck with vent under license plate (unpainted) is $500.00.  Rear deck with chrome plated vents (as shown) except unpainted is $575.00. The buyer pays freight.
