Hi

I am afraid I have what is possibly a stupid question, but here goes.  I have a '59 ragtop that I want to have restored.  Someone told me that I should get the mechanical work done first and then the body work done.  Is that right?  The car needs a lot of TLC and a pan off restoration (she lived by the ocean and has serious rust issues and I'm trying to figure out where to start!).

Thank you!

Your friend is right to a point. You don't want a mechanic messing up your new paint job. But on the other hand I'd get a qualified body shop to check your Beetle out to make sure there will be no surprises when it comes time to do the bodywork.
