Has anyone ever put leather interior in their bugs?  Is this something that would have to be a custom deal or can you buy a kit?  I did keep the seat frames (which appear to be in great shape)  I was thinking of having them re-ulpolstered in leather, what do you think?

Butch

I will assume putting leather in a bug must be tabbo, can anyone tell me where to find the best interior package available?
Thanks, Butch

I've seen lots of leather interiors in Beetles but they are all custom made. You pretty much have to have the original covers so that the trim shop can use them as a template. It looks fine but you'd be looking a lot of cash to put it together.

We just got the complete interior kit made by TMI through JBugs.

The kit is amazing. it includes new upholstry for all 3 seats, new headliner, new carpets front and back, and new door panels. all for $510. The quality is really great. http://www.vwupholstery.com/

I wish I was as impressed with Jbugs. I would see if I couldfind their products else where.

Hi Patrick
Are you going to fit the seat covers etc Yourself?

All the leather interiors i've seen in Australia have been custom made..
some are rather ugly...

but I'd really like some.... normal looking ones...

the seats in Australian beetles were different to those on USA German made beetles...  so I've read...

Lee;

We got the cloth because we both prefer cloth and the leather was very expensive. I did not fit the seat covers myself, but they looked real easy and the kit came with the hog tool and DVD to do it all yourself.

We know a guy that does upholstery and he had more time that wither of us did. He was even impressed with this product.

I wouldn't call leather a " taboo" but it is a bit of reach in my books.  If you can spring for that kind of coin more power to ya.  I went the TMI route but ordered the custom two-tone interior red with black basket weave vinyl inserts.  The all up cost was only about $ 240, the cuts and fits were perfect and the overall impression at the car shows is always two thumbs up.  I then get to explain to people the overall cost and the fact that I was able to complete the whole job on my own in an afternoon with no previous experience.  The comfort is there too.  The basket weave breathes even on really hot days.  Anyway, suit yourself.  Nobody can tell you how to do your ride.

That is correct.  While Australian Supers were made from German CKD kits, local content was used while completing Australian assembly, and seats were part of the local content.

Sewfineproducts.com has first-quality, custom-made leather interiors available in several colors.  A little pricey, perhaps, but they do super-nice work and are great to deal with.  I didn't choose leather myself-- I have it in my daily driver, and prefer something softer.  But anyway, there's ya another link to check out!

Yes, leather has a nice ring to it...

but I don't think I would ever have it..

but its certainly NOT Taboo in a beetle...

Custom seats can be VERY expensive

and the leather ones i've seen at shows...
were for show purposes only...

as leather doesn't stay perfect in shape or looks...

I think a good quality Vinyl would be OK...

I have seen daily drivers with Porsche electric leather seats
in beetles...
that maybe a cheaper alternative...

that price sounds good Patrick untill Our dollar went down to under 70c US...  lol

use the seats from an Audi TT coupe the rear seats will need a small modification but a good upholster will do it

I had a Fiat once and had the original covers deconstructed and remade in leather. But if Sewfine has them I'd go with them, they make a good product.
