Any idea in how to remove the ignition key cylinder ones you have the cast housing out? There are not much info in later models, 1977-1979 only for earlier models and it is quite different.

Did you check the VW Shop Manual?

THanks yes, no info in the shop manual but someone told me you must drill a small hole very close to the cylinder and then just with a nail or something sharp you can get the cylinder out. There is absolutely no other way to do it. Its a shame I do not have a video cam because there are no videos on how to do this in youtube.

Hi
I will find the info and let You know as the hole has to be exactly
  right.
I remember finding that info when looking on how to remove the ignition switch in My 68 beetle.  and I was lucky to have a steering column out of a 69 beetle.. so I could see how to take it out..  it all looked very difficult in the manuals I read..  but wasn't too difficult with a steering column on the kitchen table.. lol

I'll get back to You,

LEE in Australia
