I have a cracked dash pad and do not want to replace it, I would like to remove it and paint the dash. What does this involve? Does somebody make a short defroster vent? What all do I need to remove to get the dash pad off? I know about the 10mm nuts in the back but what else?
Thank you.
Rob

CIP1 makes a dash pad ($129.95) to fit your Super. That's not too bad for a complete dash, so you might consider replacement rather than repair. You're lucky to have a 1302 because a new dash for the 1303 is almost impossible to find. There are covers to fit but no complete dash for the 73 and up Super. We have businesses in Canada that do mobile repairs to auto interiors. There is one called Dr. Vinyl that can fix any crack in a dash or tear in vinyl fabric. You might want to see if such a service exists in your area.

Do you have a workshop manual for your Beetle? It's a good idea to have one around. The 70-79 BEETLE & KARMANN GHIA BENTLEY SERVICE MANUAL ($29.95, also available from California Import Parts) that cover almost every job you'll need to tackle. I'm sure you find the info that you need in there on how to re&re that dash.

I was going to take out the dash pad and just paint, then my wife asked how much is it going to cost. So I checked. To have the dash prepped and painted at the shop that did my car is almost $200. WOW! They said they would have to take out the front window, take off the steering wheel, all the dash stuff and then mask and paper off everything. Lots of work they said. So I think replacing the dash pad will work for me. I do not want to get the current one repaired because the prior owner cut a hole for a radio and cut it to big. Thank you for the advice on where to look to get one.
Have a "SUPER VW" day!
