Hello there.. I have a 74 super, a few days ago my alternator light came up and I dont know how to troubleshoot it I think I is the external regulated it has a plug type 3 spade connection and a stud right next to it. I dont know were that regulator is located and how to troubleshoot it any input is greatly appreciated...thanks.

My '73 has it under the back seat on the driver's side. I can't help you with troubleshooting it, I bought an alternator with an internal & rewired it.

hey minbinder I am going to check that area tomorrow thanks! How much wiring is involve if I go with that style alternator? What are the pros and cons?

I just didn't plug in the regulator plug. My regulator is still intact just not hooked up. The only wires that connect to the alternator are the main post & the wire for the dummy light. Never had a problem since it was installed 2 years ago. We went that route for a higher output alternator since newer electronics have a larger draw on power.I like my radio....it wasn't exactly designed for speaker boxes, digital outputs, etc......
