Hi, replacing the accelerator cable on my 78 super beetle. Have the new one that comes with the plastic tube that the cable slides thru. Pulled the old cable out but it appears that the factory plastic guide tube remained in the metal tube that runs thru the tunnel . How do I get that plastic tube out so the new cable can be put in. I tried pulling on it but if the end tears off I'm screwed.

Can you just use the cable from the new one and the old plastic?
