I hope someone can help me.  The female part of the retractable seat belt on driver side broke.  The red press button came loose.  Has no pressure when pushed.  It came out and I stuck the male part back in like an idiot and had to use a screwdriver to get it to unhook.  I have had this car since buying it new.  Did replace these decades ago with Kangol Type SB2 belts.  I thought if I could just find the extender male part which I see available it would fix my problem. They don't make one that fits this belt set up.  The left front one is fine. Looks like I'll have to buy a new or used driver side retractable belt.  Anybody have any ideas? I hate to have to buy 2 new ones. I don't even know if they make them.  Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

First thing is to remove the female piece and steal the one from your passenger side, this is so you can keep driving, tell your passenger to buckle up in the back seat, now depending where you are located there are VW shows that show cars and sell used parts, I look up thesamba.com and on the lower right of the page it lists the dates of shows in the US, plus there are plenty of VW people who have spare parts, good luck.

Bob..thanks for responding. I ordered one of these. I hope it works.  In the mean time I taped the driverside one off and lock it in the passenger side.

The part to fix problem arrived. It's a No Go.   Doesn't fit..the female part is way to narrow.   Sometimes you just can't win for losin'.  Looks like I need to buy a whole new retractable belt for driver's side.  If I can find one.

You need to look for a set of seatbelts, even if they are used, my drivers side belt was worn out and my passenger side looked brand new, I went to a VW show and bought a used set, I took the passenger belt apart by pulling it to the end, there is a loop at the end small piece of metal that hold the belt to the roller, once you take it out, you turn it around to fit the drivers side, it is better if you lay out both belts on the ground, so you can match them up correctly.

Sorry, I hit reply too soon, the roller retractor has two plastic side covers, one has the retractor spring, try not to open it and the other side has the collision pendulum lock, the belts lock when forward momentum is stopped like when you get into an accident, this is where you can pull the belt out with one hand and hold the lock with the other hand to keep it from retracting, now sitting down is the best and you have both your new and old belts lined up the same way, then swap them out.

Bob...it's not the retractable mechanism that is broken.  It's the female part on the drivers side where the belt snaps into.

I live in South Florida, if I am looking for parts it is usually at a VW show or a junkyard but there is Bruce and Don at McNabb foreign car in Pompano, 954-972-4630 or 954-972-1697 they got lots of parts and they ship too.

Well, I decided to order a pair od new ones.  The guy assured me the retractable parts will attach to the door frame as the originals do.  We'll see.  My luck usually doesn't hold on these things.  I figure it will be easier to install these if I remove the seats. Wish me luck.

Got the new ones installed only took about an hour and weren't hard to install.  I didn't have to take the front seats out.

Make sure to keep the old ones, just in case something happens.
