Newbie here with a Q

Hey guys, new guy to the forum, picked up a 73 super beetle. Red, good shape, unfortunately I do not have a pic yet. Anyway its a 1600 and has a slight problem. It stumbles upon acceleration. It was sitting for a while before I bought it so I put fresh gas in it, had the carb rebuilt and threw some new plug wires on it.(one was bad) Set timing and points and it still runs the same. Free rev's fine in neutral but under a load it stumbles. I searched and came up with possibilities of a dirty card or ignition problem. Considering I replaced wires and had the carb rebuilt I am counting those out. The dissy is fairly new and the points are good. Hoping someone may have an idea for me, I will be doing some more searching in the meantime. TIA

Idling nightmares

Ok car came with a 34 pict 3 carb and an 009 distributor. I rebuilt the carb and cleaned every port and hole I could find on it. I didnt over tighten the jets. Replaced wires, plugs, dist, etc. I set the fast "idle" per every instruction i have found which was either back it out all the way, then let it just touch the choke cam (choke in open position) and then give it a 1/4 turn then forget it. I set the control screw at 2.5 turns, tried three turns. I set the bypass screw in the same spot. Started it up, runs and idles fine until warmed up and then wont idle at all. If i choke it with my hand it will run. I have backed out the bypass screw nearly all the way and tried every spot between there and in all the way with little or no change. By backing out the volume control screw to somewhere way more than three turns it can almost idle. Well after much head scratching and hair yanking i find out the 34 pict 3 and the 009 dont like each other. Before laying out money to replace one or both parts is there a way to make them sort of be happy together?

I did come across this web site. Im not sure if this is a viable option or not, but I am willing to try it if anyone is familiar with the technique.

73 SUPER BEETLE RUNNING ROUGH! HELP!

Hello, I have 73' Super Beetle. 1600cc stock engine 009 distributor, 34 pict 3 carb. The problem is that after the car is warmed up it runs fine at high speed. But at low speed it jerks and studders and sometimes dies. It idles fine. The carb has been rebuilt, but did not cure the problem. Now they are changing the points and condenser. Fuel filter is clean. Would the condenser or points do this?

CD Player in 72 SB

IS it fairly easy to hook up a cd player in my 72? I want to keep the factory radio in the dash , and put the cd player in the glove box. What all does it have to hook to? Just the speakers and the battery? Any help would be appreciated.

74 SB Fuel gauge #2

Ok, so I've got the fuel gauge hooked up and it seems to be wired correctly, but it doesn't move on it's own. When I hook up a test light to any of the leads it starts to go up. My guess is that it's either a bad ground, bad vibrator or a bad sending unit. What do you think? Is there something "special" I need to do when hooking up the gauge?

Half Moon Vents

I have been stripping down the back end of my rust bucket to see what I need to repair and I have come to the conclusion that these so called vents (Which older models don't seem to have) seem to be the source of the rusty bits in the rear of my car (It doesn't help that some plonker of a previous owner has filled the whole lot in with of all things - expansion foam)

Can I just cover them over or am I interfering with some thing else air flow etc. help?

Ever heard of a Battery Brain?

Hi All,

I just purchased a Battery Brain for my '75 Super vert used off Ebay for $21. http://www.batterybrain.com/batterybrain.pl

I have a monstrous sound system, 90 amp alternator, but the radio and amplifier draw power. After 4-5 days, my battery is dead. The Battery Brain prevents the battery from draining lower than the energy required to start the car. (I don't mind losing the radio presets.)

The install seems simple but I need to find an ignition wire power source somewhere close to where the battery is located. This prevents the Brain from activating while the car is in operation. Any help finding a wire that is activated by the ignition would be a great help.

doesnt not have front struts and tire stays up, look for more information on vin#s cant seem to find much, I need to know so I can start ordering parts, any help would be great thanks

I know this looks bad, but want to know if it's a fixable item or should I give up and move on? I know you can buy a quarter panel but could this be filled and made solid? The rusted spots are actually solid although they look worse in the picture. New to this and looking for guidance.

Hardtop to Convertible???

Has anyone done one, seen one, thought of one, ideas on how to do one?

I am new to this site. I finally got a bug 1971 Super Beetle, needs a complete restore, got it for next to nothing, but I always wanted a convertible.

I've talked with a couple of people and said better off to look for a convertible, but I'm ( boyfriend lol) up for the challenge, would just be nice if I could do it with any help or tips would be great, pics to if you have em.
